February is over–it’s time to celebrate a mathematical holiday, Pi Day.
What is Pi?
Pi is equal to the circumference of a circle divided by its diameter. It can be used to find many measurements from a circle, sphere, or other shapes that have a circle as its base. Pi has been calculated all over the world, from ancient Babylon to 31,415,926,535,897 digits in Osaka, Japan, in 2019. This record of 31 trillion digits was set by Emma Haruka Iwao, a Google employee.
When is Pi Day?
The first three digits of pi are 3.14, so Pi Day is March 14, or 3/14. This year, Pi Day is the second Sunday of March.
What is the FLVS Math Club doing for Pi Day?
The FLVS Math club is inviting everyone to join their Live Lesson on Thursday, March 18 to learn more about pi, including its significance and history. Middle and high school students can share their “pi” knowledge to earn the title: first-ever Pi Day Kahoot Champion! Will you win by being the fastest so solve our trivia, riddles, and Math problems?
