This Oct. 31 may not be like the traditional Halloween where children run around trick or treating for candy. However, this Halloween doesn’t have to be any less enjoyable! Here are five things you can do this Oct. 31 to get in the spooky spirit!
The Traditional Movie Marathon
Scary movies are a great way to spend your halloween night! Whether you’re watching a horror movie like “The Quiet Place” or a comical movie like “The Addam’s Family” you are in for an entertaining Halloween.
Paint a Pumpkin!
Everyone has experienced the struggle of carving a pumpkin…So what if instead of carving the pumpkin, you painted it to glow in the dark? All you need is two items, some creativity and of course, a pumpkin!
Materials:
- Paint brushes (I Recommend to have a flat one for large areas and a smaller one for details)
- Glow in the Dark Acrylic paint
- A Pumpkin
Instructions: It’s not that different from painting on a piece of paper, it’s just round! You can make funky designs or simply make it a different color, just make sure you see it at night to see its glorious glow!
Make some spooky slime!
This great recipe for fluffy slime will only take a minute or two to make but will keep you busy playing with it for hours!
Ingredients:
- One 4oz bottle of elmer’s white school glue
- 2 Tablespoons of contact saline solution
- 1 ½ cups of shaving cream
- One or two drops food coloring (optional)
- Medium sized bowl
Instructions:
- Mix together the Elemers glue with the 2 Tbsp of contact saline solution. If you’re going to add food coloring, this would be the time.
- Add in the 1 ½ cups of shaving cream and stir, the more shaving cream you add the thicker your slime will be.
- You’re done! So now all that is left to do is have fun!
Make Tissue Ghosts
Little ghosts hanging around your house will definitely bring you into the spooky spirit! These halloween decorations only take a couple of materials!
Materials:
- Tissues
- String: least a 1 ½ feet of string ( If you are trying to hang up your ghost from a high spot use more string)
- Black sharpie or marker
Instructions:
- Take one tissue and open it up and lay it flat on the ground
- Take two more tissues and loosely ball them up. Place your ball of tissues in the center of your original tissue.
- Pinch your original tissue around the ball of tissues to encase them.
- Use one end of your string to tie a knot around the ‘pinch’ , this should enclose the tissue ball.
- Lastly use your marker to give your ghost some personality. Draw a scary face or maybe just some eyes. You can now hang your ghost with your excess string!
Host a Zoom Party
We can’t have parties in person, so why not have a Zoom party? You can tell scary stories or just catch up on what your friends are doing during quarantine.
What will you be doing this Halloween at home?

Thank you Janice!
Good article Gwen
Nice!! Sounds fun
you make real cool jack o’ lanters
These are great ideas. My family did games and the prizes were candy and cool How To Draw books. We were able to extend the fun up to two day after Halloween.
