Take a break from school stress and trade your textbooks for a tropical tan aboard one of Royal Caribbean’s largest ships, Star of the Seas, the perfect getaway during this chilly season. Come along as I recap my seven night trip to four destinations, packed with live entertainment, amazing food, waterslides, and even the ship’s famous mascot. The fun never ends.
Dining Highlights
Breakfast, lunch, dinner, and midnight snacks aboard Star of the Seas, you will never go hungry. The Windjammer Café, a buffet included in your sailing, is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It is a must visit spot for every guest.
Looking for something more elegant on formal nights? The Main Dining Room is perfect, offering rotating menus, plenty of options, and accommodations for allergies and dietary restrictions.
For quick bites, check out:
Sorrento’s Pizza – The most popular spot on board. Grab a slice or a whole pie: pepperoni, cheese, Hawaiian, and more. Open until 3 a.m. most nights for late night cravings.
Pearl Café – Ideal for coffee, sandwiches, and lighter fare, with ocean views while you dine.
Aquadome Market – My personal favorite. This food hall brings global flavors together:
- Mai Thai (Thai cuisine)
- La Cocinita (Cuban dishes)
- Feta Mediterranean (Greek specialties)
- Pig Out BBQ (pulled pork, brisket, mac and cheese bowls)
- Crème de la Crêpe (custom sweet crêpes)
And do not miss the unlimited ice cream stations on the top deck, perfect for a sunny day.
Specialty dining options, not included but worth it, include Chops Grille, Izumi Hibachi & Sushi, Giovanni’s Italian Kitchen, Hooked Seafood, Chef’s Table, and Playmakers Sports Bar.
Activities at Sea
On sea days, the top deck is the place to be. Relax on a lounge chair or swim in one of seven pools. For thrill seekers, Thrill Waterpark offers six waterslides, including:
- Two family raft slides
- Two mat racing slides
- A 46 foot drop slide
- Pressure Drop, a freefall body slide with a 66 degree incline if you dare
Other water fun includes the FlowRider surf simulator. Lessons cost extra, but riding is free.
Prefer dry activities? Try the rock climbing wall, the sports zone, or the ultimate adrenaline rush: Crown’s Edge, a zipline 154 feet above the ocean. It requires an additional cost, but it is unforgettable.
Meet Sailor, the Ship’s Mascot
One of the sweetest surprises on board is Sailor, a golden retriever who lives on the ship with her owner. She is a celebrity among cruisers, always ready for photos and plenty of pets.
Entertainment
Evenings are packed with live entertainment: classical music, jazz, and violin performances, plus spectacular shows like:
- SOL, an ice skating show in Absolute Zero
- Torque, a jaw dropping aqua show
- Broadway style musicals in the Royal Theatre, including Back to the Future and Create, plus movie nights
Kids and Teens
For younger cruisers, the clubs are a hit:
- Adventure Ocean (ages 1 to 12)
- Social 020 (ages 13 to 17)
I spent most of my time in Social 020, meeting amazing new friends. From silent discos to games and laughter, these clubs make the cruise unforgettable.
Final Thoughts
If you are planning a trip, consider Star of the Seas for your next adventure. You will fill your phone with memories and probably start planning your next cruise before you even disembark.
