Posted on January 24, 2021January 31, 2021 by Stephenie

I had ten people fill out a survey picking their favorite poem out of these four and share why it was their favorite. Read on to view the results!

A Teacher’s Guidance by Halyard Twist

You were there to guide us
You helped us from where we were
You showed us the way
So we would not get left behind
Like students in a puddle of tar

Shadows by Esmeralda Esther

Are tricky and deceptive
they are illusions that can trick,
and scare you-
But they can also be funny and silly to watch,
like a shadow light show.
They can be good
or bad,
but you can’t let the scary ones frighten you because it’s a shadow,
and nothing more

Boredom: Part 2

Nothing.
Nowhere.
No one.
Breathing.
Slowing.
No fun.
Thoughts pass by-
Your mind dies.
The sun shines,
though not here.
The wind blows-
nowhere near.
The leaves don’t dance-
everything is still.
Life is in a trance-
stopping at will.
Darker than night
yet lighter than day.
Boredom leads to wonder
which may lead you astray…
Don’t let it scare you
For it’s nothing to fear
Maybe a sound will find you
that you always wanted to hear…
Maybe you will lay down-
close your eyes.
Just for a second
and visualize.
Look around in your mind-
memories, dreams, thoughts.
Look inside your world-
beauty, glory, dots…
dots of color, creating a shape, forming something-
forming your world, your mind, your everything.
You will take a deep breath,
and realize
that the pain you had once felt
is starting to subside.
How you got bored of being hurt,
you don’t know.

The feeling of wonder,
had started to grow.
You don’t know what would be Beyond
You just knew you would see it.
In the other world after this,
You would believe it.
Life is like a fire-
one spark of it, and it’s alive-
Though when air is taken from it,
It dies.
Your fire has slowed…
nothing left but a spark.
You breathe your last breath,
giving in to the dark.

Promise Joy and Bella Stahr

To you enemy,
forgiveness.
To an opponent,
tolerance.
To a friend, your heart.
To a customer, service.
To all, charity.
To every child, a good example.
To yourself, respect.

The favorite poem for this month was “Boredom: Part 2” by Promise Joy and Bella Starh.

Here are some of the reasons people gave:

  • The art of this poem captures me. I love to read the words and witness the art in this poem.
  • Because it makes me feel something, the other ones are just words, they don’t make me feel anything.
  • Boredom was an intriguing piece that caught my attention with its simple repetitions and its use of juxtaposition of both grim and jovial sides of life.
  • Boredom Part 2 – it was so good to read.
