For the month of December, ten respondents completed a survey picking their favorite poem out of the five poems below and shared why it was their favorite. Read on to view the results of this study.
Nature’s Peace by Esmeralda Esther
I am entranced by the calm, serene waterfall scene
The water rushes over the rocks
like a bird who has been set free.
The butterflies flitting to and fro
Capture my attention-
But only for a moment,
For there is so much to see.
The lake that the waterfall creates
Is clear as glass, calm and still-
With no movement.
The only thing that breaks
the silence-
is the sound of birds chirping-
Like musical bells.
As I lie under the canopy of trees,
I watch the sunlight filter down,
And as a sense of peace fills me from head to toe and nature’s music washes over me
I wish I could stay here-
Forever
Your Best by Barbara Vance
If you always try your best
Then you’ll never have to wonder
About what you could have done
If you’d summoned all your thunder.
And if your best
Was not as good
As you hoped it would be
You still could say,
“I gave today
All that I had in me.”
Boredom by Promise Joy
Staring at gray skies
Watching as paint dries
Looking around
Hearing no sound
Empty thoughts
Brain rots
Listening to your own breath
Until, eventually, death.
The Flower by Halyard Twist
“The world is a flower
A beautiful one too
But all we can see are the roots
The roots may be dirty
The flower is quite the opposite
It is clean
If we don’t look up
We will miss the beauty queen
And the beautiful scene
We will miss the beauty too
If we don’t see
The flower”
Good or Bad by S. S. W.
“It’s not about what you have
But about how you use it
Nothing is good or bad
Unless you choose to make it so
Before you blame a trait
Think about what you can do
To turn things around
And make it work for you
