PoinsettiasLooking Forward to 2010

It is hard to believe that in a matter of days, we will close out another year. 2009 will always be a memorable year for many. In January, Barack Obama became the first African-American president of the United States. In June, we saw the death of an icon when Michael Jackson died suddenly at the age of 50. And in November, it was announced that “Twitter” was the most popular English word of the year! And who can forget the drama of “Octomom” and the Gosselins, the fear of swine flu and the growing popularity of Twilight and similar stories of “the undead.”

But 2009 was also a difficult year. The number of foreclosures increased dramatically this year despite the promise of government help and refinancing options. So many Americans found themselves without jobs as the unemployment rate jumped to its highest in 26 years. And the battle between the House and the Senate for a universal health care option raged on with many taxpayers angry at “big government” decisions.

Yet the holiday season came as it does every year. Lights are up, decorations are hung, gifts are exchanged and traditions are embraced. While the celebrations may be smaller for some, this shouldn’t make them less meaningful. Take some time to enjoy loved ones because no matter how hard times may seem, it’s our families that keep us strong.

On behalf of the entire News in a Click staff, have a safe and happy holiday season and a wonderful new year!
